Murder and suicide are incidents that most people think of when they think of crime scene cleanup. There are other crimes and trauma that need cleanup, here are some examples:
Crime scene cleanup specialists, also known as technicians, need to have a stamina and mindset that is fir for the job. You will be working with people on the worst days of their lives. At the same time, you will be working where people have died. The average person doesn’t have the ability to cope with that. There will be blood and other evidence of trauma left behind that you will see every day.
You will also require a fair amount of training. Learning the proper chemicals and cleanup processes takes time but you also need to learn to use proper personal protective equipment (PPE). This will take a commitment to the process and involves plenty of fieldwork and study time.
Many states regulate the process of crime scene cleanup. This is to ensure proper jobs are done and people aren’t taken advantage of. Regulations also ensure that employees are protected during the cleanup process as they are just as likely to get exposed to bodily fluids and other biohazards during the cleanup process. The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) also regulates crime scene cleanup like they do almost any job.
